[edit] Info
Ok, the final version is here. I would advise that you restart with this particular version of Vincente, just to avoid possible issues. Here's a step by step on that for those not familar with the process.
- Take away any of his items you consider important.
- Save the game, and exit.
- Disable the mod and load the save you saved in step 2.
- Save again and exit.
- Re-enable the mod, and load the save from step 4.
Then you should be good to go. You'll have to do the whole greeting spiel over, but it's a fresh, clean install.
Fixes/Additions for 1.6 Final
- Horse script reverted back to non-teleporting version. Horse was showing up in houses and cities, and that's simply not cool.
- Added the Oak & Crosier as a destination for the travel dialogue. The option can be found under the Inns/Taverns dialogue option.
[edit] Installation
- You really should consider installing the final patch (from Bethesda), if you haven't already. It does address some companion issues.
- Place GG_Vincente.esp file into your "Oblivion\Data" folder.
- When launching the game, select data files and click on GG_Vincente.esp.
[edit] Description
To save you reading, this is not a storyline driven companion. This is not a companion you can start a "romance" with. He's not a companion with tons of dialogue. What he is, is a companion, period. A smartarse one at that ;-)
He IS set to essential. Unless you create a uber companion, most are too weak to survive a decent battle, especially if you're running a mod that spawns mobsof enemies. If you can't use a companion that is essential, then you can either not use this companion, or get in the CS and make him non-essential. I won't release a seperate non-essential version.
You will find Vincente hanging out by his camp near Weynon Priory. You can't miss it, I've enabled a map marker (shows up as a camp) you can travel to. It will disable after Vincente joins your merry band.
After your initial chat, you'll get the combat Style selection menu.
Your choice of combat style, determines what class Vincente will be. Specific classes are determined by a random number roll, but the result will be a class that fits the combat style you selected.
After his class is determined he is assigned equipment and/or spells based upon his class, and he will open his inventory up so you can adjust it to your liking.
If Vincente is the healer class, he will heal the player when the player falls below 50% of their max hitpoints. This takes into account if your health is modified by something like armor. So if you're wearing something that boost your health 20 HP.. for example 100/80 HP.. He will heal you at 50% of the 100 HP, rather than your base health. The level of his heal spell is based on the max HP of the player.
All stealth classes (agent, thief, assassin) have a Ring of Khajiit(Chameleon spell) added to their inventory. They will equip the ring when in battle, or while sneaking.
If there's things you would prefer to do without Vincente, you can do one of three things.
- You can use the "Go Home" dialogue option to send him to any of the stock Oblivion houses you own.
- You can use the "Go to an inn/tavern" dialogue option to send him to 6 different inns/taverns
- Olav's Tap and Tack in Bruma
- Cheydinhal Bridge Inn
- Oak & Crosier in Chorrol
- The King and Queen Tavern in Imperial City
- Three Sisters Inn in Leyawiin
- The West Weald Inn in Skingrad
- You can set a home waypoint and have him return to that point at a later time (Available through the travel options dialogue menu). This is useful for modded houses. This is based on modification of Timboe's Mark and Recall mod. The home marker option can be used can be used in interior or exterior cells.
Vincente comes complete with horse. In case you missed it, his horse was at his camp near Weynon Priory. You tell Vincente once, via a dialogue option, if you want him to ride his horse or follow you on foot(you can of course change your mind at any time). He will auto mount/dismount his horse when you mount/dismount your horse.
The horse teleport was taken out in version 1.5 due to issue of it magically appearing inside houses, and city streets.
Oblivion Gates - Vincente works on the same exact system for OB gates as the Gabrielle companion does. Before you go in a gate, you drop a "safety marker" via a dialogue option. Before you grab the Sigil Stone you send him back to his safety marker, again via dialogue. He'll be outside the gate waiting for you, with no equipment loss, etc.
Vincente, like Valeria can fully repair the stock Oblvion weapons and armors. This is done via new dialogue options. When the repair scripts finish running his inventory will open. You don't need to change anything, you simply need to close it for the "fixes" to apply themselves. I had tried an auto method of activating and disabling the share, but it proved too buggy to continue using.

I would ask that this mod not be used for an "adult" companion mod. Other than that, feel free to use it however you wish. Please just give me, as well as Aridale, some credit somewhere in your readme.
[edit] Known Bugs / Issues
To avoid crashing issues, and/or companions turning invisible on fast travel issues, you really should install the final patch for Oblivion if you haven't already.
Do NOT mess with Vincente when the repair script is running. You can cause a lot of problems by doing so as his share is being manipulated by the repair script. The repair script will flash a message when it's complete. You'll know when the script is done. If Vincente's armorer skill is below 50, he will only run the basic repair script which will fix non-magical armor/weapons. That will take 8-10 seconds to run. If his armorer skill is 50 or above, he'll run the whole repair package, repairing magical and regular weapons/armor. This takes about 30 seconds to run on my computer.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you do NOT use this companion in the arena. Most companions have issues in the arena. Vincente is no exception to that rule.
Vincente seems to have problems with mods that modify player stats like fatigue, etc. If you're using a mod that modifies player attributes/stats, it is recommended you don't use this companion.
Horse script glitches occasionally occur where Vincente will stand beside his horse but not mount it. Either nudge him into his horse, with your horse, or nudge his horse into him and he should mount.
Minor cell conflicts with the Oblivion Cell (Natural Environments). Why? I have no idea. All I have is a check to see if Vincente is in Oblivion. How that creates a minor conflict with other mods is beyond me.
[edit] Notes
You will notice a slight lag, from the time you pick the combat style, to the time it tells you what class it selected from Vincente. Just give it a sec, or 10, and it should work just fine.
[edit] Credits
Special thanks to Aridale, the creator of the Gabrielle Companion. Vincente is based on very basic version of Gabby, so without Aridale, I couldn't have hacked his code to make Vincente work :-)
Special thanks to Sorcha Ravenlock for the face update on Vincente.
Special thanks to Timboe for his Mark & Recall mod. I modified parts of it to give the option of placing markers in non-stock Oblivion houses for Vincente to return to. It's no longer a spell that's cast to set or return to markers, just a quest script. More from Timboe here: www.timboesoblivion.co.uk
Special thanks to Breave for his horse script.
Thanks to scruggsywuggsy the ferret for help with the thief container package.
