[edit] Author's Description
This adds a magic gentleman's cane and derby to Oblivion. They are located on the floor just inside the Abandoned House in Anvil.
The Cane is held by a character like a torch (left hand item), and while held it provides a warm clear light around the character. In effect, it is a quiet and never expiring torch.
The Derby has a special magic that allows the player to evade enemies chasing him/her. Normally once an enemy has decided to be hostile to the player that enemy will chase the player down no matter how far or how winding and obscured the player's path is. The Derby "evade" is activated simply by taking the Derby off (you can put it back on again if you wish). Any enemy hostile to the player will "rethink" their intentions based on what they can see... if they do not detect the player then they will no longer pursue the player. However if the player once again gets into range of the enemy where the enemy detects the player, the enemy will pursue the player once again. A message shows the results of the evade attempt. Note that this magic power takes one game hour to recharge after use. Also note that the power only activates and attempts the evade if the player is in combat.
If you are tired of the hack and slash gaming, try playing a spell caster that does not use weapons or armor. If you do, I recommend my War Summons for enchanced summoning powers, and possibly MentalElf Mercenaries for a bodyguard. I also recommend checking out the bunches of great clothes plug-ins (mods) available. They can add a whole new look to your character.
To install copy the files in the zip archive to your Oblivion/Data directory and enable MELF_Cane.esp in Data Files options when you start the game.
[edit] Notes
Thanks to Lera and AlienSlof who inspired me to make the Illuminati Cane. A big thanks to J3X who put up with my gripes and helped too.
This plug-in (mod) was packaged and archived in easy to install BSA form with TES4FILES.
